Benjamin Vandiver: Gallery I / Cultivated counterpoints

Vogue magazine and Architectural Digest…named Vandiver “one to watch”, the most-coveted honor for a new designer.

The accompanying Gallery I image by Benjamin Vandiver epitomises 2019’s focus on eclecticism.

Visually fresh, the many cultural and aesthetic references inspire at once contemplation and conversation. The selective collection of furnishings and art cover wide-ranging interests and backgrounds: in a nutshell, it is a style tailored to the socially astute.

The combined elements indicate a broad minded approach to life on one hand, and a stimulating transition from the exactitudes and stresses of the working day on the other.  A true escape which offers multiple modes of relaxation. It is moreover, a great room in which to socialise for similar reasons.

Art, history, architecture, design and interior design come together with effortless bravado in this room. The style sparks myriad references, which means the inhabitants escape to pleasingly provocative surrounds at days end.

Creating the look!

Seagrass matting has thankfully come back into prominence! The material, tone and texture perfect for a relaxed lifestyle & eclectic design.

Gill Shafer III of GP Shafer Architects nimble application of this wonderful material puts him streets ahead in terms of confidently, yet unconventionally, collating seagrass matting into period homes.

As I have mentioned before it is always preferable to buy an editioned print if you are able, however, these are quality posters and will suffice for the look!

The creative elements on display in Gallery I are clear and diverse with a deft mix of rustic, traditional, mid-century and modern references: all the more impressive because the vibe is both intuitive and original.

The V-leg construction of the ”Committee” chairs – first developed in the earlier Scissor chairs…was an element used extensively in his Chandigarh designs.

Strong geometric elements work well for both masculine and feminine emphases as well as graphic simplicity, and generally, remain aloof from definitive trends.  Moreover, wool adds richness and sophistication and is, of course, easy to clean.

Great Dane ML 90 Sofa

The ML90 sofa is exclusive to Great Dane and it has been 40 years since an original ML90 was produced. Modern and smooth lines cement Wikkelsø’s place as a pioneer of Scandinavian mid-century design.

AV56 Armchair | Arne Vodder | Nielaus

Danish design master Arne Vodder created this series of lounge seating in 1956 but the design is timeless. The elegant steel base gives a floating effect to the tightly moulded cushions with clean cut, simple lines. Seating comfort is unique with wide armrests and a high back which supports the body.

France & Son, New York:  Replica Midcentury Jeanneret Armchair

Our Jeanneret Lounge Chair is inspired by Swiss architect Pierre Jeanneret’s mid-century modern Chandigarh Chair. Like the original, our contemporary reproduction has V-shaped solid wood legs, and a woven cane seat that provides an astonishing level of comfort…

Vandiver’s living room suggests culturally diverse, intuitive leaders in fashion, music, food, travel and the arts in general. They are confident, on-the-go and perpetually in ‘the know’.

Pierre Jeanneret ‘replica’ chairs are readily available both in Australia and overseas – both the ultimate in sophisticated seating and to conjure the romance of the past!
